Hierarchy for recycling in Cincinnati. 1st published 2/13/2024; last updated 2/22/2024.

  1. Curbside – loose in the green bin.  https://www.rumpke.com/for-your-home/recycling/acceptable-items
    • Paper, including cardboard.
    • Plastic bottles, jugs, tubs, & cups.  Empty, crush, & reattach lid. Yogurt tubs and cups are accepted; #1 plastic salad tubs are not (but are accepted at #3 Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub).
    • Metal cans & cups (non-hazardous, non-flammable material only):  aluminum & steel cans & lids, empty aerosol cans with lids & tips removed.
    • Glass bottles & jars (any color).
    • Cartons:  remove caps & straws.
    • NOT FOR RECYCLING: No plastic bags, cassette tapes, bed sheets, hangers, metal chains, garden hoses, batteries, needles, syringes, electronics, polystyrene foam, buckets, car parts, food, yard waste, light bulbs, drinking glasses, ceramics, pots, pans, and scrap metal.
  2. Curbside – Hefty orange bag (to put in green bin)(Please rinse.). https://www.hefty.com/products/hefty-renew/hefty-renew-accepted-items.
    • Plastic grocery bags. Bubble wrap & pillow packs.
    • Foam Products:
      • Foam cups, plates, & bowls.
      • Foam to-go containers.
      • Foam packing peanuts & foam block packaging (the packing material your stuff is wedged in).
    • Plastic utensils.
    • Plastic straws & stirrers.
    • Plastic Packaging with no foil lining.
    • Yogurt and butter/margarine tubs.

    • Thursdays 12p – 6p and Saturdays 10a – 2p.
    • Items must be clean, dry, & free of product. 
      • #1 – #7 plastics that do not go into the green bin above (sorted by #).
      • Plastics with no #. Caps. Odd plastic bits.
      • Plastic mailers / mail, including Amazon, package bags.
      • Coffee bags.
      • Dry cleaning bags.
      • Pet food bags.
      • Oral Care:  toothpaste containers & caps, tooth brushes, & floss containers.
      • Metal:  metal lids & caps, pie pans, and clean foil.
      • PakTechs (the plastic carriers of aluminum cans).

        • Batteries & Lightbulbs.
        • Cables & Cords.
        • Ink & Toner Cartridges.
